about US

The idea to organize the SOPW originated with a group of college teachers.  They saw the need for more cultural activity in the community at an organizational level.

The Society of Professional Women (SOPW) began in 1958 at Alabama A&M College, Normal, Alabama.

Members of the SOPW exhibit and invoke highly reliable tendencies toward the enhancement of educational values of family living.  The members listen to well-informed views to help develop the reasoning faculties of youth and the community at large.  Members enlarge their minds and cultivate their morals through community services to instill some precepts of virtue and order.

Since the SOPW was organized, monthly meetings have been devoted to enhancing and supporting  cultural programs and community affairs throughout Madison county…
